Aim of the Tutorial:

  • To improve understanding of the wider system of health protection, including civil and public protection delivered by the Local Authority, including the wider system of Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response (EPRR)
  • The following areas are likely to be covered:

-  Role and functions of Health Protection in Local Authorities

-  Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and duties of Category 1 and 2 organisations

-  Functions/Terms of Reference of the Local Resilience Forum and Local Health Resilience Partnership

-  Risk assessment process in relation to emergencies including knowledge of the Community and National Risk Registers and hazard identification

-  Risk communication in an EPRR context and wider communication strategies

-  Command and control arrangements including strategic, tactical and operational levels, their functions and how they are coordinated

-  Role/functions of the Scientific Technical Advisory Cell (STAC)

-  Role / functions of agencies who will be involved in response and recovery following an incident e.g. Environment Agency, Food Standards Agency, Animal & Plant Health Agency

-  Incident declaration and escalation process

  • To update knowledge and understanding of current developments in immunisation and screening
  • To improve understanding of the management of serious incidents in screening and immunisation
