Our Keynote Speaker is Professor Sir Mike Owen, Professor of Psychological Medicine at Cardiff University. He directs their Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute (NMHRI) and heads the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics. His main research interests are in the genetics of major psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, through using a combination of molecular genetic approaches including genome-wide association, copy number variant analysis and second generation sequencing to identify the specific genetic variants that confer risk to psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

His title is

Genomics and the nature of schizophrenia

We will also have presentations from 3 CAT trainees

  • Shona Methven - ACL in Nephrology  ‘A comparison of measured GFR with estimated GFR and urinary clearance measures as predictors of outcomes in a Swedish CKD population: a survival analysis’
  • Alex Cochrane – ACL in Microbiology  'Barriers to hepatitis B testing among migrant populations'
  • Sofia Theodoropoulou – ACF in Ophthalmology  ‘The contribution of cellular bio-energetics in stimulating IL-33/ST2 axis in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration’

Tea and coffee will be available from 5.30pm followed by a light supper at 7.45 pm
