What can you expect with a BCP Council Public Health Placement? 

We work in partnership with communities and local groups to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, through a variety of programmes. These include: 

  • National Healthy Child Programme (Health Visting and School Nursing Services)

  • Sexual & Reproductive Health Services  

  • Domestic Abuse Services  

  • Mental health promotion and suicide prevention programmes  

  • Community Development services  

  • Access to Food, Household Support and Cost of Living initiatives

We also work with partners to address and influence the building blocks of good health including education, employment, housing, transport, healthcare, community safety and the built and natural environment.   

Who’s in the team? 

You will be working under the newly formed Public Health and Communities Directorate led by Rob Carroll, Director of Public Health and Communities and his team of consultants, head of programmes and senior/health programme advisors. 

Public health teams used to be joined in Dorset but on 1 April 2025, transferred into council services. 

We host an apprentice Public Health Analyst on behalf of the Dorset system and have a jointly funded (with NIHR) Local Authority Research Practitioner role in the team.
